2 The Church of Saint Pascal Baylon l 1757 Conway Street l Saint Paul, Minnesota FROM THE PASTOR S DESK: You are invited to a Blessing of the Animals: Sunday, October 7 at 12 noon in the church parking lot near Door 3 (Flandreau Street entrance). Bring your dog, cat, bird or other pet animal for the blessing. This blessing is in honor of St. Francis of Assisi whose feast day is October 4. St. Francis is the patron saint of animals, ecology and merchants. Francis cared for the poor and sick, and he expressed his devotion to God through his love of all creation. Francis saw animals as his brothers and sisters. One remarkable story about Francis describes the time he lived in Gubbio, and he met a wolf that was attacking people and other animals. Francis prayed and then approached the wolf. Francis talked to the wolf, and the wolf closed his mouth and lay down at Francis' feet. Francis asked the townspeople of Gubbio to feed the wolf regularly, and the wolf never harmed another person or animal again. If you are unable to join us for the Blessing of the Animals on October 7, here is a blessing prayer that you can pray with your pet: Blessed are you, Lord God, maker of all living creatures. You called forth fish in the sea, birds in the air and animals on the land. You inspired Saint Francis to call all of them his brothers and sisters. We ask you to bless this pet. By the power of your love, enable it to live according to your plan. May we always praise you for all your beauty in creation. Blessed are you, Lord our God, in all your creatures! Amen. You are invited to attend a St. Pascal s Town Hall Meeting on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at 7:00-8:30 p.m. in Brioschi Hall. The purpose of the meeting is to update parishioners and School families about our plans to strengthen and grow our Kindergarten through Grade 8 program at St. Pascal Baylon Catholic School this year, next year and in the future. We will also present information about our St. Pascal s Early Learning Center which includes our Preschool program for children ages 3-4 and our Pre-Kindergarten program for children ages 4-5. This Town Hall meeting is intended to be a venue for Parish and School leaders to address your questions and present information about our finances, our enrollment, our School marketing and advancement efforts, and our donor investment model of funding that provides financial support for our School so that our Parish is not placed in financial danger. We will also update information that was presented at the Town Hall meeting here on May 9, 2018 regarding a working group that is discerning a potential value-based charter school on the East Side of St. Paul. God Bless You, Father John Mitchell RCIA Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is available to any person seeking full membership into the Catholic Church.
